El canal estadounidense Country Music Television (CMT) difundió
una lista de las 100 mejores canciones de amor, encabezada por el
éxito de Dolly Parton "I Will Always Love You", que
ocupó el primer lugar en los ránkings de música
country en 1974.
La canción tuvo un renacimiento 18 años después,
cuando Whitney Houston la interpretó para la película
"The Bodyguard" (El guardaespaldas), convirtiéndose
en uno de los éxitos más grandes de la historia de la
música pop.
En 1998, Parton dijo a CMT que la canción le dio la satisfacción
de que una mujer la detuviera en un aeropuerto y le agradeciera por
haber escrito la letra.
"El padre de la señora estaba muriendo de cáncer
y él nunca había podido decirle a su familia cuánto
la amaba", dijo Parton. "Cuando él oyó la
canción, él salió, compró el cassette
y trajo a cada uno de sus hijos para reproducir la canción
frente a ellos. El hombre les dijo: 'Estas son las palabras que quiero
que ustedes sepan que están en mi corazón'".
Ese encuentro en el aeropuerto fue "uno de los momentos de mayor
orgullo en mi vida", dijo Parton.
